Someone once wrote that “the key to a healthy lifestyle is making small changes such as taking more steps like adding fruits to your cereals, having an extra glass of water, trekking short distances and making time for resting periods. Other, little, little sacrifices include eating healthy foods, avoiding excessive fats and sugar. This way, you can star living healthy without drastic changes.”
This, I we say “is healthy living made simple”. However, a surface attempt to deal with the issue of healthy living may not really solve the numerous problems associated with unhealthy lifestyle. Healthy lifestyle entails healthy eating, personal hygiene, exercise, rest and sleep. It also involves the emotional wellbeing of individual. All these are discussed below:
PERSONAL HYGIENE
Personal hygiene is the principle of maintaining cleanliness and grooming of the external body. It is basically taking care of your body. Taking time to groom yourself will drive sicknesses away from you. It we also help you to achieve social acceptance, promote cleanliness and develop healthy habits. You we be presentable for all occasions .Healthy lifestyle, according to the world Health Organisation (W.H.O), is a way of living that lowers the risks of being seriously ill or dying. It is a way of living that helps you to enjoy more aspect of your life.
Bathing should be frequent and regular habit. At least twice a day. The armpits need special attention as they harbour perspiration. Be careful in the choice of soap and cream. Avoid soaps and creams that lighten and damage your skin. Towels and facecloths should not be shared as they spread infection. The teeth should be brushed regularly,at least twice a day especially before retiring.
The eyes are important bit delicate organs of the body, which need special care. Dirty hands and handkerchiefs must not be used to clean the eyes. The ears should be equally care for. Regularly cleaning with cotton swab (not matchsticks or biro) will prevent excessive wax in the ears and also remove dust. Hands should be kept clean always. These should be thoroughly washed with soap especially after using the toilet.
The feet are very useful. Avoid high heel, pointed shoes or shoes that are too tight. These can bruise the toes and hurt the feet. Taking care of the hair is another essential part of grooming oneself.It should be regularly and thoroughly washed.Paying good attention to what you wear is also very important.Washed clothes regularly according to type or material.
Be aware also that shared toilet can cause infections much as possible, avoid its usage. But if you must use it, then choose a very neat one and ensure that the toilet is properly wiped or lined with tissue before using it.
HEALTHY DIET.
Feeding healthy is one of the most important factors in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.It we enhance your physical and mental strength,enabling you to measure up with pressure of daily life more efficiently.All nutrients are appropriately apportioned in your diet.Include vitamins,carbohydrates,proteins and minerals in your diet,so that your body gets its due share of nutrition.Avoid foods that are fatty especially those containing animal fat.Fruits should be consumed regularly and appropriately.
EXERCISE.
For maximum health therefore, physical exercise is paramount. Simple walking, jogging and in short, whatever you do that makes you sweat profusely and live active life is good enough coupled with healthy eating habits.
REST AND SLEEP.
Our world today is full of activities. The struggle for survival almost makes it impossible for anyone to find time to rest. But if you must stay healthy then you must create time for adequate relaxation, rest and sleep.
You cannot quantify how much you’ll benefit from maintaining a lifestyle that is healthy. Not only will your life be prolonged, you’ll be a happy parent raising happy and healthy children. You’ll also be useful instrument in the house of God because service to God we be more effective when you are physically strong. You’ll be light in your generation.
